When you are on the returning end of a serve, your primary objective is to neutralize your opponent’s serve advantage. When you watch a pro match you can clearly see this, but in a junior match you often see players trying to fight fire with fire. That is, junior players often think that the best response to a good serve is to try to hit an even better return. Your best option at neutralizing a great serve, however is to hit a deep, down the middle of the court return. Doing this helps you negate that strong serve and gives you a strong foundation to start the point from.
